Here in Massachusetts, we have our own Ted Stevens. Her name is Dianne Wilkerson, a state senator from Boston, and the FBI arrested her early this morning on corruption charges stemming from her allegedly taking $23,500 in bribes to secure legislation and favors. The best part of the scandal is that Wilkerson was allegedly, I guess I have to say that word, caught on video stuffing $1,000 in her bra. Like Stevens, Wilkerson is seeking reelection. Unlike Republican primary voters in Alaska who nominated Stevens despite his legal troubles, Democrat voters in Massachusetts dumped Wilkerson in the primary. Should she find herself in a house of correction after winning her write-in campaign for reelection to the upper house, Wilkerson would not be the first Bay State official holding office from a jail cell. James Michael Curley, he of "Vote often and early for James Michael Curley" fame, served part of his fourth and final term as mayor of Boston from a federal penitentiary.
Another victim of the vast Right Wing conspiracy.
As stated here, this woman was taking bribe money and was caught stuffing cash in her bra on tape in an undercover sting and then using the money to casin0 gamble even though her outstanding debt is through the roof and even though she has prior convictions for tax evasion along with other various crimes and misdemeanors.
So what do she and people in her district do? Well, they pull the ‘R’ card of course. Her crimes are a plot by ‘The Man’ don’t you know!?
She is and always has been a mean-spirited corrupt politician from a district where she was preceded by two other felon legislators.
In the last election, she was endorsed by the Governor and the Mayor and still lost to a competent Hispanic lady. When she and people in her district protested, there was a recount. She lost again. Recently (like the bride of Chucky) she came back to run on stickers.
This is the kind of chaos that follows in the Little Washington D.C. of inner city Boston politics.
A comment was made by one of Wilkerson’s minions that the victor was not a woman of color. That there were two kinds of Hispanics: those who are dark and those who are light and that she wasn’t dark enough.
But that’s not racist. Right?
Until ALL PEOPLE truly start not seeing color and allowing it to be used for political and social advantage or to get a pass for bad behavior, we will NEVER move ahead as a society.
Unfortunately, we have allowed it to be used as too powerful a weapon in this country to likely ever see it go away.
For many legitimate reasons this woman should just go away.
Boston City Councilor Chuck Turner came out yesterday to say that Wilkerson's problems were because of, you know.
This is the same guy who pulled photos of soldiers "raping" women off of a porn site and sold them to the Boston Globe for publication as more proof of U.S. Military atrocities in Iraq.
