Back-To-Back Home Runs

Rudy Giuliani and Sara Palin hit back-to-back home runs at the Republican National Convention. The speakers hammered home winning Republican themes: McCain's inspiring story, reform, and the party divide between Middle America and urban elitists. Both speakers served red meat to the hungry conventioneers who went unsatiated by the vegetarian fare offered by the speakers who preceeded. He said Obama voted "present" 130 times while in the Illinois senate. She said Obama kisses up to Middle American voters in Scranton but ridicules them in San Francisco. He said that Palin stood up to a machine while Obama joined one. She said that Obama has written two autobiographies but not a single piece of federal legislation. And it wasn't just one liners. Both Giuliani and Palin highlighted Obama's tax-and-spend mentality and naivity on foreign policy. Their speeches hurt Obama and helped McCain. Perhaps more so than anything Palin said, the camera vignettes showing the same family that has been the object of so much media vitriol made Palin a hit with ordinary Americans. The sight of her youngest daughter wetting her fingers with her tongue to then brush her little brother's hair was something out of a Norman Rockwell picture. Urban elitists never got Rockwell, either.

Palin's speech was brilliantly written and from what I gather brilliantly delivered as well.

Those criticisms of Barack frankly cut very deep. The riff "I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a "community organizer," except that you have actual responsibilities" is deadly accurate. What I like about it is that she is correctly taking the fight right to the bumbling Barack. If they want to discuss qualifications then bring it on! Which is the correct strategy.

Just as important is stressing repeatedly the elitism and snobbery of Barack and his mindless minions. Barack's complete (but melancholy) vanity and self-absorption must be hammered on. That is why those McCain ads mocking him as the "messiah" or "child of destiny" or w/e it is the sycophants who like him see him as were so effective. This is going to be a critical point to be able to get any of the base into the voting booth. Turnout will be so key for McCain given how this is such a Dem year like 2006 was.

I really wish the ticket was reversed.

You were right on about the little girl fixing Trig's hair. Rather amusing is that some on the left said that Trig was a prop, passed from family member to family member for photgraphic effect. Anyone with little kids knows that they get heavy and yes, passed around.

No one has mentioned the issue I thought she showed her expertise about, energy. Her talk of the pipeline and it truly helping to reduce our dependence on foreign energy was, IMO, one of the moments in the speech where others would have been impressed with her knowledge.

I suspect that Rudy and Sarah irked the media last night, so for Gov Palin and her family it will only get worse between now and November.

Be well,

Sponge

For kicks and giggles I turned to MSNBC after Palin's speech to see what the enlightened Olberman would say. He actually compared her to Tracy Flick, the Reese Witherspoon character from the dark comedy "Election." In one sense I laugh because this is how far lamestream media pundits have to go to sling mud. In another sense, however, this comparison is extremely demeaning and dismissive.

Also, after listing to Rudy discuss how Obama has zero experience, I think we should refer to Obama as Barack Zer-Obama.

It was a great speech. Palin can be a real attack dog when she gets going. Sarah’s going to be a pitbull with lipstick for the rest of this campaign. She’ll make the Democrats sorry they attacked her family like they did over the past few days.

Off topic, partly. Everytime that guy angrymob or whatever his current handle is comes around here, this site gets flooded with spam posts to the comments section (see the 248 posts in "Where's the Bounce"). Dan, I suggest you report this person's IP address to the appropriate law enforcement agencies.

Sarah Palin body checked Barack Obama right out of the hockey rink. She's the best offensive defensemen since Bobby Orr dazzled the hockey crowds in the middle 60's and 70's. Keep rushing the puck Sarah and assistant John McCain.

That was all pomp and no substance...The only agenda put forth was either generic conservativisms that can't be substantiated or anti-barac. Get real

"That was all pomp and no substance...The only agenda put forth was either generic conservativisms that can't be substantiated or anti-barac. Get real"

WTF dude? What do you think the speech at the "coliseum" was? You need to really listen with an open ear and mind. Now this may make some conservatives mad, McCain is closer to where the majority of Americans are, the center. While Obama is so far left out that it is scary.

conservativism--a political or theological orientation advocating the preservation of the best in society and opposing radical changes.

Doesn't that sound good?

Excellent defense of your candidate Michael. You have completely bitten off of the party line; full on attack, I ask for substance you provide more empty rhetoric (not even good rhetoric at that) thanks :)

d.k. Listen to many v.p. nominating convention speeches before? Seems not.

Posted by: Bruce Wayne on September 5, 2008 02:19 AM

The Republicans said NOTHING of SUBSTANCE!! It was a disgusting display of nastiness and UNFUNNY JOKES! I guess BUSH'S SPEECH WRITERS let Palin down! She couldn't have been more smarmy if she tried! She has NO EXPERIENCE to be President, if McCain kicks! She went to many different colleges and finally got a degree in Communications! Whoo Hoo! That makes her QUALIFIED? Maybe it is because she can be seven months pregnant and look like zero months pregnant! I'LL VOTE FOR THAT! Okay, she can gut a pregnant moose, anything? NO!! She can fire people if they divorce her sister, or a librarian who refuses to be a fascist book burner! Why run down Obama because he wanted to help out of work steel workers? He was giving to his country, yet the Republicans ran him down for it! The Republicans call for CHANGE (which they stole from Obama!) Change from WHAT? THEY STILL HAVE KARL ROVE ADVISING THEM!! HE RAN BUSH'S "ADMINISTRATION"!! Oh yeah...they need to CHANGE the country from what the REPUBLICANS DID TO THIS COUNTRY!! THAT IS WHY EVERYONE SHOULD VOTE FOR OBAMA!! HE WILL SAVE THIS COUNTRY!! JUST WAIT UNTIL THE DEBATES!! OBAMA WILL MOP THE FLOOR WITH MCCAIN! McCain will DUMP IN HIS DEPENDS AND HAVE A MELTDOWN! PALIN WILL WISH SHE WERE GUTTING TWELVE PREGNANT MOOSE INSTEAD OF FACING BIDEN!! HE IS GOING TO KICK HER ASS, AND IF YOU THINK HE WILL PULL HIS PUNCHES BECAUSE SHE IS A WOMAN...THINK AGAIN!!
I would like to start a fund so RUDY can get his speech impediment fixed AND if there is any money left, buy him a new story, so he can put his tired 9/11 tirad to rest! Mc Cain can buy his own! Hey! Did you see the pictures of McCain HUGGING his captors and torturers? That wasn't long ago, either! That is called STOCKHOLM SYNDROME, look it up! It means McCain is mentally ill! Did you read about the fact that McCain called Cindy a cu*t in public and that he screams at fellow Senators so much they call him SCARY? Generals have said that, "HE SHOULD NOT BE PRESIDENT!" McCain obviously STILL suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder! He has psychiatric records, but they are closed from viewing. Don't you think that is a BAD illness for the position of PRESIDENT? There are OTHER Viet Nam vets who were hurt, but they didn't have an Admiral daddy pave their way! THEY YELL AT PEOPLE ON THE STREET, McCAIN YELLS AT THEM IN THE SENATE! (WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?) Oh, and b-the-way...the groups of MIAs and POWs HATE McCAIN! HE TREATED THEM LIKE CRAP, SO NOW THEY HATE HIM! McCAIN + PALIN= DISASTER for US!

Palin cares so little for "her" 4 month old Down's Syndrome Baby, that she couldn't be bothered giving him a normal name, instead of a dog's name! She also didn't care that her special needs baby was being exposed late at night to thousands of people and their germs; especially when Down's Syndrome Babies don't have very strong immune systems! YES, she cares more for PHOTO OPPS THAN FOR THE WELFARE OF "HER" CHILD! (Okay, she'll probably give the kid back after the election!)

Holy Smokes Cheryl. Talk about derangement. Or maybe time to get back on the meds?

It's clear that lefties see the coronation of their chosen one slipping away but your Demo party rant is wasted here. Seen and heard that. Instead of the UPPER CASE weirdness (oh, we know you have a point to make, so make it HARD) why don't you just list your items for discussion so somebody can address them?

But, you nuts can't handle discussion or facts. It seems.

Posted by: asdf on September 6, 2008 07:27 AM

Very nice Jan. Are you an example of the kinder and gentler left?

Hateful little rascals, ain't you?

It's all slipping away and there ain't nuthin' you can do about it.

It's interesting also that this Republican Convention was the most watched convention ever!

Silent Majority baby. We may not be ranting on blogs or demonstrating in the steets breaking windows and throwing feces but we're quietly out there en masse baby!

Are Jan and Cheryl examples of the left's interpretation of "Sisterhood"?

I guess that bond only applies if you're a hairy legged, birkenstock wearing, squat chick with a crew cut and the book of Mao under your hairy armpit. Certainly doesn't apply if your an accomplished Conservative woman who has actually done something substantive in her life.

Cheryl
You Caps Lock was on. I was unsure of what you were saying.

"She went to many different colleges and finally got a degree in Communications! Whoo Hoo! That makes her QUALIFIED? Maybe it is because she can be seven months pregnant and look like zero months pregnant!"

Gee I went to 2 different colleges for my undergrad and now and am going to a third for a law degree. I guess that mean my education is lacking...
And i have noticed that you get you news highlights from US Weekly. Let me take some undated photos and create a story where there is none. Get a grip and argue something that matters.

"Oh, and b-the-way...the groups of MIAs and POWs HATE McCAIN! HE TREATED THEM LIKE CRAP, SO NOW THEY HATE HIM!"

How did you come by this? I mean really if you want to make stuff up go somewhere where people are alittle less educated and belief anything they read.

I love it.

Library books; pregnant teenagers; 20 year old DUI’s; gun toting Mama; questions about Motherhood.

These are the things that the left and its media are worrying about.

Forget it that their candidate was the product of a teen pregnancy and that his mother was a far left afro-centric nut bag who barely took care of him and that his Father didn’t even stick around so he could move from female to female to have more kids.

Forget it that their candidate has not come up with a credible believable document that proves where and when he was born.

Forget it that their candidate was bounced around the world in his formative years and was mentored early on by a communist pedophile and when he did settle down with his white grandparents, referred to his Grandmother later on in life as a ‘typical white person’.

Forget it that their candidate smoked grass, got drunk a lot and went though mounts of blow in his adolescence and early manhood years.

Forget it that their candidate cannot produce one ounce of provable scholarship from his many years of higher education.

Forget it that I could go on for pages on this. Especially siting his questionable decisions and associations as an adult.

Obama is a product of his life experiences and so it Palin. But how dumb is it that the left and the media attempt to pick the Republican apart when the Democrat has so much baggage that could easily be exploited. If the majority of the media was not in the satchel for the Democrats everybody would know this.

But we don't have a national media. And if we did, I seriously doubt we'd use it to degrade and tear down a person we see as a threat. We're just not that darned angry!

There should be some serious concerns about Obama with regard to his life and his credentials. But the lefties would rather pick apart a smart, solid family woman with a nicely kept list of accomplishments.

I love it.

Cheryl and Jan are the typical jealous female leftist. Sarah Paldin was the girl in college that was constantly being asked out on dates, with the popular boys, while the Cheryl and Jan's were forced to spend their weekends in quite desperation.
They are like most of the woman on the left, they are still jealous of Sarah Paldin as well as still having a dislike for the real men, who never gave them a second look, much less ask them out for a date.

Jan and Cheryl get over it! Tearing others down won't build you up.

Here's a practical example of why the left is dying.

I'm at the beach today and, as I'm known to do, I hit a seaside bar for a few Budweisers.

Along comes two "women" on bicycles. One riding a Harley Davidson clone and the other with a baby carrier, but there ain’t no babies in it. Just two, really cute, chocolate labs. They have wedding rings on (this is Massachusetts after all) and are in a full court press in the bar making sure everybody knows they’re in love.

At that point I thought, what party could these woman possibly belong to? I think the answer is pretty obvious.

So, to me, it's clear that the Democrats are the party of homosexuals (not that there's anything wrong with that) and abortionists with a scatter other groups involved.

As Long Shanks said in Braveheart, "we'll breed them out".
