It's an Embarrassment Alright

Mexican President Vicente Fox calls the 700 miles of fence that President Bush approved for the U.S.-Mexican border "an embarrassment for the United States." It's an embarrassment, but not for the United States. Mexico cannot sustain its own population. More than ten million Mexicans find the conditions in their homeland so intolerable, and the conditions in the United States so inviting, that they take the drastic action of migrating. The fence means that Mexico will have to actually provide social services to millions of poor people. The current policy of shipping them to the United States for Americans to give them jobs, education, health care, welfare, etc., is not neighborly. Good fences, on the other hand, make good neighbors.

That was a pretty unconvincing show that Bush put on at the signing yesterday. Like somebody spiked his Lone Star with urine and he was forced to take a big gulp. So now GW is finding that doing his job is a distasteful affair and that pi$$ing off his third world phoney boloney President pal hurts. GOOD!

the migration is the inevitalbe consequence of the disparity in income between the two nations.

Mexico should def do more to encourage growth.

So what if he signs the bill. From what I understand, it's not funded. Bush wants amnesty. This was only a mild pacifier for the base. Without funding, how do they build the fence? As for Fox being peeved, so what? Mexico is NOT a part of the U.S., contrary to the wishes of some. I care not about offending other nations when it's the security of the U.S. at stake.

Billiam,
For what it's worth, word from political insiders is that the funding will happen and relatively quick. I guess we'll see. My guess is Bush will (finally) make the border situation more of a priority, even if it's just to pacify his base.
I agree that the US shouldn't give a grab about what other counties think. Let them clean their own house, then they can criticize us.

If Democrats take the House and Senate the first thing they will do is sign an immigration bill with Bush.

It will have Amnesty.

Hey HeHe,

Your link doesn't work. And speaking of links, what kind of fence does Bush plan to build. Because I know I learned how to jump a fence in like 1st or 2nd grade.

The fence means that Mexicans will have to actually teach millions of poor people to climb fences. The current policy of shipping them to the United States for Americans to give them jobs, education, health care, welfare, etc., WILL ONLY WORK IF MEXICANS CAN JUMP FENCES. Good fences, on the other hand, make good climbers.

Tall and electrified with sheets of razor wire on top, I hope. Anything to prevent the third world clash with the U.S.

Presumably all of the prisoners in federal prisons learned to climb fences in the 1st grade. Curious that they havn't all escaped.

Sharia law is coming the the United States!

And you "Christian Nation", seperation of Chruch and stae is a lie crowd are to blame!

Posted by: HeHe on October 29, 2006 11:12 AM

Thats pretty difficult to defend, HeHe, in the face of the vastly more serious problems, that the vastly more secular nations of the UK and France face with their own Islamic populations.

Posted by: Ben-T on October 29, 2006 04:50 PM

Are you serious?

France has its problems with its Muslim population because its 12% of the country.

The American population is better intergrated and richer.

But the French have a secular state. And here in the US the Christian Reich wants to create a theocracy. If and when that happens there will be religious war right here in the US.

In France their kids riot because they don't have jobs. Here in the US there will be a religious struggle of epic proportions- unless we reestablis h the seular state.

"The American population is better intergrated and richer." -HeHe

Which derails your argument that Sharia is coming to America.

"But the French have a secular state. And here in the US the Christian Reich wants to create a theocracy. If and when that happens there will be religious war right here in the US." -HeHe

Only in your imagination, I'm afraid.

Posted by: Ben-T on October 29, 2006 07:59 PM

No actually, it doesn't.

They are integrated into a society that feels its okto push religion into the public sphere.

They don't riot, but they do vote.

That's the danger.

Sharia is coming to America.

And conservatives made it happen.

You're nuckin' futs HeHe.

Feel free to support this assertion at any time.
