Bridge to Nowhere Gets Derailed?

Alaska's Ted Stevens vowed to resign from the Senate if that body "decides to discriminate against our state." He added, "I don't kid." According to the Sierra Club, the Senate Appropriations Committee has removed funding provisions for two "bridges to nowhere" that Alaska's senior senator was so exercised about. One of the bridges, which would have cost about $300 million and rivaled the Golden Gate Bridge in size, would have connected a few thousand people to an island of fifty people. Now, it seems, the bridge to nowhere truly is a bridge to nowhere. I hope Senator Stevens is a man of his word.

Perhaps we could remove all ridiculous spending from the federal budget and all 100 would resign. How would we ever get by without them?

Discriminate against Alaska??? Alaska has been robbing the other 49 states for years. That Bridge to Nowhere will be built from gas taxes paid by people in New Orleans. Senator Ted Stevens is a hypocrite.

These guys are like cockroaches. You can't get rid of them. Him threatening to quit his prestigious, cushy, no-heavy-lifting job for life means as much as all of the pampered out-of-touch movie stars threatening to go to Europe if Bush were elected.

They didn't, but wish they would.

Well, if you read the bill. Alaska still gets the money -- the governor gets to decide what to do with it. If this is a backend around to get these 2 god-forsaken bridges built that no one wants, it will be a slap in the face to every American.

We need serious people for serious times. These are serious time and we need people willing to cut spending. It seems as if we need to remind Republicans why we sent them there -- TO CUT SPENDING AND REIN IN THE GROWTH OF THE FEDERAL BUREAUCRACY.

Get some cajones. Oh, wait a second. This is the Senate we are talking about -- They walk softly and carry a cane. How about walking softly and CARRYING A BIG STICK.
