P. Diddy has got a lot of killing to do.
P. Diddy labeled his youth voter drive "extremely successful" on MSNBC in the early hours of Wednesday. The numbers tell a different story.
This was going to be the year. Young people were going to buck historic trends and vote in droves. They didn't. The AP headline says it all: "2004 not the breakout year for youth vote after all."
"Vote or Die," P. Diddy warned. "Choose or Lose," MTV told their viewers. Despite these threats, less than one in ten voters Tuesday were in the 18-24 age demographic--about the same percentage that voted in 2000's presidential election.
Four years from now, we'll hear it all again. The 2008 presidential election, celebrities, youth activists, and bad pundits will assure us, will be the year young people turnout in huge numbers. I'll believe it when I see it, and even then I'll have my doubts.
I get to teach 3 classes later today (the first in about 6 hours) for a total of about 100, 18-22 year old New Yorkers. I am looking forward to hearing their chatter about the election, or their lack of chatter and discussion.
Many teens assk me why it is that senior citizens seem to get all of the attention from the government.
Yesterday is why. Seniors VOTE!!!!
Be well,
Sponge
I think you risk death for failing to anounce the winner of the football pool! It wasnt me but i look forward to seeing the winner of the pool. I mean come on how long does it take for a loser to accept defeat? By that I mean the dems. since its tough to identify sarcasim through typing!
It is a shame that more young people don't get involved. I'm am a college student and i don't understand it. Government is somethat controls everything you do (not that it should be; But, unfortunately, it does). And most young people don't care. Society has corrupted our young people into selfish idiots. The majority of young people care only about what makes them feel good. And care nothing about government and values and freedom. They think there free because it appeals to them but little do they know that they are controlled by the media and professors that are influence by stupid ideologies. This country needs a revival in education to teach our future the important things in life, not stupid false ideas. Well, I could write forever, but I have to stop. Please press this issue with every young person you come in contact with. Encourage all young people to participate in their government. It will run without them so they might as well get involved.
God Bless you all,
