Security for Me, But Not for Thee

"Are you troubled by the erosion of some of America's most basic civil liberties?" Al Gore asked Monday night. Why yes, in fact, I am. Seeing my hometown transformed into a police state is disturbing. (Actually, I'm from nearby Arlington, but if Michael Moore can continue to claim that he's from Flint I guess it's okay to say I'm from Boston).

Random police searches, a seven-foot fence surrounding the entire Fleet Center, communter trains shut down, the major artery into Boston closed, machine-gunners on rooftops, helicopters circling overhead, and protestors barricaded from the event all greatly trouble me, Mr. Gore. When it comes to their own security, Democrats make John Ashcroft appear as if he were the chairman of the ACLU. When it comes to the security of the American people, they're much more lax.

Is anyone concerned that the DNC has gotten away with smearing the First Amendment?

The protesters have a Constutional right to say what they want, pretty much where they want to say it. But, the courts have conveniently, for the Democrats, halted their right to do so and have suggested that it’s ok to pen them all up in a location that’s far away from the action.

The conventionaires may not like that there is a lunatic fringe or may not like what the protesters in general have to say, but they should respect the laws of the land and allow their rights to say it.

Just another example of the ‘Party of Tolerance’ being less than tolerant.

I thought the Dems were supposed to be high minded? I guess what that must mean is that they have developed a high and mighty elitist thought process.

Why is it that the people with the philosophy that the bars should be closed early when it affects the public at large, now adopt a policy that anything goes? Rhetorical question. They’ve again bent the rules to suit their own agendas.

Good for you guys I suppose.

3:30? What time did you guys close?

By the by: did any of the establishments pay for the privilege of allowing the use of deadly tobacco in the bars for the duration of the Convention?

Mike I had the keys. So I closed as soon as they left.

I have no problem diggin on the Dems for the lockdown they have going on in Boston but this is just a heads up. From NYC where I am the plans are already for all subway trains that run to Penn Station . . . which is several major lines to be diverted and their will be no car or even foot traffic allowed all around the Garden. There is already much talk of people shutting down around that area and taking vacations so it looks like NYC will have some similar issues to what happened in Boston.

I think it being New York and the convention being for the War Party which actually is in power now the security threat will be greater than the Dems have in Boston. Still, we may see some of the same lockdown strategies.
