Kerry Concedes, Networks Don't

John Kerry reportedly called George W. Bush to concede defeat this morning. Although the actual candidate has come to grips with his loss, CNN and ABC haven't. They still won't call the election. Consider that in Wisconsin, where Kerry's vote total exceeds Bush's by about 13,000 ballots, the networks have declared Kerry the winner. But in smaller states like New Mexico and Iowa, where Bush leads by the same raw total as Kerry leads in the larger state of Wisconsin, the networks are reluctant to call it. Bush's lead in Ohio is roughly the same as the number of provisional ballots, but yet the winner of the state's electoral votes, according to several networks, is still an unanswered question. Give it up, already!

More so than even John Kerry, Dan Rather, Aaron Brown, Keith Olberman, and numerous other alleged newsmen longed for a Bush defeat. After Kerry phoned Bush to concede defeat, he should have called MSNBC's Ron Reagan, MTV's John Norris, Time's Margaret Carlson, and ABC's George Stephanopoulos to console them on their loss.

In fairness to Stephanopoulos, he conceded Ohio to Bush at about 7:15 AM this morning on Good Morning America. He pointed out that provisional ballots would have to go about 80% Kerry for there to be any chance of them making up the difference, and that the odds on that happening were essentially zero.

They should call Tom Brokaw too. Man, I thought he was going to start weeping on the air when they flipped Ohio to Bush, and then announced the Daschle defeat.

I applaud Senator Kerry for condeding. Now the Democrats should accept it as well. If they are to have any hope of getting elected to anything, they need to stop acting like sore losers. It takes a big man to accept defeat. I would ask Senator Kerry to ask for the stopping of all legal maneuvering and for this country to stand behind its popularly elected President.

My countrymen have spoken. I don't care for President Bush's Machiavellian tactics, but he is my President and he has my full support for the next four years.

Be well,

Sponge

It was wonderful that Kerry was a man about the whole thing and coneded. It was even touching his attempt to persuade his party to try to work with the President. It is just too bad that he could not keep his running mate from driving the wedge between the parties deeper during his speech. I guess that proves that there is freedom of speech for everyone, including poor losers like Edwards.

Random thought?? Will any of the people who were giving out and receiving ballots be alive once W's second term is complete? where i voted the combined age in the room had to be close to 350? The kicker is there was six people in the room!
