Foxphobia and Other Liberal Pathologies

The passion of liberals and Bush haters--the two often go hand in hand--is extreme and often irrational. Two recent anecdotes have highlighted for me this unchecked passion of the president's adversaries.

As I prepared my last set of bench, another member of the local Gold's gym began swearing and raving. Initially, I thought there might be a fight. As he approached, his voice became more audible and it was clear he was angry about a George W. Bush advertisement airing on the Gold's gym internal television network. His female companion, disgusted with what she saw on the television, announced that she was going to complain to management.

My younger brother tends bar in Boston, and during the Democratic National Convention a few conventioneers entered his barroom and made a strange request. They asked that he turn the station from Kerry's convention speech. My brother refused, noting that the other patrons were interested in watching Kerry's speech and nothing else. The patrons then informed him that they too wanted to watch Kerry's speech. They just didn't want to watch it on the Fox News Channel. Confused, my brother informed them that all of the other channels carried the same feed and it made no difference what channel it aired on. They persisited, but my brother refused on the grounds that the audio for all of the bar was set to the Fox News Channel and that changing the channel on the big screen would make the sound slightly off from the visual. The anti-Fox patrons toughed it out.

Since when did the sight of a political advertisement become grounds for a profane tirade in a public place? Since when did it make a difference on what channel you watched an uninterrupted political speech? We are living in politicized times.

Dan,

Clearly you do not understand what a threat to democracy, clean water, and matching pairs of socks Fox News is.

If it wasn't for Fox News we would already have a cure for Alzheimer's and gingivitis.

Thank God for NPR!

Dan, I wouldn't want to watch an uninterrupted speech on Fox News. The Fox News commentators have an annoying habbit of making snide comments right after a democrat's speech. Plus thier graphics and new ticker take up more of the screen.
In addition, I don't think anyone should be supporting Rupert Murdoch. (With the exception of watching the SImpsons)

I'm as conservative as they come and I can't stand FOX news. The FOX commentaters are just plain dumb. Everything they say is superficial and not worth the time it took for them to say it. I don't even understand the appeal of a guy like Hannity. If you've read Al Franken's Lies & Lying Liars I think his characterization of Hannity was spot on.

I agree with DB about the FOX banner taking up a large part of the screen. All I watch is CSPAN.

Anon, I suspect that you may be a very conservative liberal but by any normal barometer, not as "conservative as they come".

Although I agree that parsing opinions and viewing alternative points of view by the left is a good educational tool for us true conserviatives, reading anything by that nitwit Franken would make you very suspect.

I was talking to a friend of mine about the high cost of cable TV. I said why pay for 100 channels, when the only thing I watch these days is FNC and poker on ESPN (Tuesdays!) and the Travel Channel (Wednesdays!) My friend went into a tirade about Fox News, saying "how can you watch that Republican stuff, blah blah blah." I then asked him what was his main source for news. Standard reponse, NPR and the New York Times. Typical Liberal Anti-American Leftist!

The New York Times and National Public Radio are the two most respected reliable sources of news in this country, allowing for the Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal as close seconds. The Right wing media claims that they are anti-American to boost thier own ratings. They are not anti-American. No American media is. To believe so is to fall into a marketing ploy of other news outlets.

I voted for bush in 2000, and I voted against him in 2004, I am a Conservative Christian and I feel the media is only interested in ratings whether it is NPR,FOX or ABC, or O'reilly or Franken and, when I voted ;this time around I did not want to vote for either main party or any of the other ones. The political parties in America do not represent the average American but have become extremeist in thier views and actions , what we need is a change in our politicals.

Sincerely

Mark
