Let's get it on! George W. Bush and John Kerry finally square off in a debate tonight. On the one hand, John Kerry is an accomplished debater. On the other hand, George W. Bush is so underestimated that he often manages to win debates. With Bush ahead in the polls, does Kerry need to clean W's clock in the debates to win the presidency? Who will win tonight? On what issues are Bush and Kerry vulnerable?
How can Bush lose against a man who looks like an umpa-lumpa?
his bottle tan seems to have worn off some tonight, he doesn't look as wierd. I can't watch this stuff for more than about 10 minutes at a time. From what I saw Kerry was dead right about Iraq but he suddenly has been reincarnated as Howard Dean and it is wholly unconvincing to hear these arguments from him now.
The whole split screen action is very distracting as well. I know they are hoping to get great reaction shots like in 2000 with Gore but it is annoying when you are trying to concentrate to what one guy is saying.
Lehrer is a wussy.
Add to the great foreign policy doctrines of the past the "Pottery Barn Doctrine" - "you break it, you fix it." Boy, the intellectual elite must be working overtime.
Did anyone else think the color of the debates was a bit off? I was expecting Kerry to be orange, but instead the picture made it look like Bush had blonde hair and was the oranger of the two. I know for a fact Bush does not have blonde hair, what's up with that?
BTW, Bush stunk up the debate. This election is a referendum on neoconservatism, and Bush should rightlty lose.
Even you proto-facists must admit that Kerry won that handly.
DB, your inability to spell is the written equivalent of W.'s inability to speak.
Kerry is Agile, Bush has conviction?
Kerry seems capable of continually assimilating new information in order to make the right decisions, rather than simply "being right."
Bush knows what he believes and nothing can make him change those beliefs. Translation--I've made up my mind and I won't be dissuaded with facts!
hehe
Yes, Kerry has assimilated information so well that he's married two rich heiresses, spent 18 years in the Senate without making any impact whatsoever and has lied about just about anything he does.
He's quite the assimilator.
Bill Clinton without the personality.
Glad to see the return of Brad to Flynnfiles commentary!
Kerry can "assimilate" or try different strategies of attack and see what sticks and what will be convincing to people because he is the opponent. Bush has four years of policy that he has to defend b/c to do anything less than defend it would be to admit he was a bad president.
I don't see the problem with either approach, it is the nature of the contest.
It's funny to see the post debate spin. Minutes after the debate ended nomatter where you went the polls had Kerry winning by a margine no closer than 47% to 35% and some as far as 97% to 2%. Somehow the holy Spinsters of Republica came out and repeated the same BS over and over until it became true. Same as it ever was. Over and over we hear people saying they can't stand Kerry because he hasn't outlined a plan. In the debate he did just that. What's Bush's plan? "More of the same?" They say Kerry flip flops, but then Kerry pointed out how Bush didn't want the 9-11 commission and then he did; Bush didn't want the UN and then he did; Bush didn't want to go to war and then he did. I laughed audibly when Kerry said: "my oponent's campaign has a word for that." That type of quick fire and competent, thought out answers are the reasons why Kerry mopped the floor with his opponent in the actual debate. We can only hope that the post debate debate will reflect the reality of what happened.
Gotta pass that Global Test.
