Iconography of the Saints

Rolling Stone iconographically pictures Barack Obama on its cover with a barely disguised halo surrounding his head. The St. Obama issue, like the "Joker" Obama posters, is an exercise in political self-flattery. Would it be that all of our political favorites wore halos and all of our political adversaries wore horns! The long, strange trip from underground newspaper of the counterculture to glossy suck-up to the powerful proves that Rolling Stone has gathered much moss.

Rolling Stone is susceptible to forces that constrict freedom within the corporate, "free"-market system, just like any other corporate entity. However, Matt Taibbi, who writes for Rolling Stone, is one of the few journalists, alternative or mainstream, who consistently and ferociously challenges state and corporate power, and has documented in print and other media how they often collude to achieve their respective aims. That state and corporate sectors are at odds is a free-market fundamentalist absurdity, documented through facts by Taibbi and others.

Here are some of his best articles and video clips:

Here's a fantastic article by Taibbi on the failures of the Obama administration's health care push:

This is the best way to summarize the article, using a quote within it:

"It won’t get done (health care reform), because that’s not the way our government works. Our government doesn’t exist to protect voters from interests, it exists to protect interests from voters."

Yeah but does the King have any reservation about dumping mo' billions of money into the bottomless pit that is Fannie Mae? Don't think so. And neither does Barney "Fannie and Freddie are solid going forward" Frank.

Are we going to have to start wearing "no snitchin'" T shirts? Maybe with O's face on it?
