Anybody else fasting for lent? I'm doing it, this is the first time I have. I actually like it a lot, so far.

Ben-T, not to criticize, but isn't fasting supposed to be something one does NOT like? I guess you mean you are already enjoying the spiritual rewards?

Posted by: Buzz on March 2, 2007 07:52 AM

Yes, that is what I mean. I am not actually enjoying the physical sensation of hunger.

Was it the impact of Clinton's alleged Presidency that set the bar so low for that office where a candidate for it makes his announcement on a late night comedy show? McCain $ucks anyway, but what does a Republican candidate for President think he's buying by pandering to a lefty comedian host and his predominantly lefty audience?

Fasting as a pentential practice has always puzzled me. For most of us, Americans at least, it is actually good for the body to cut down on calories. And what's good for the body makes us feel better, physically. Is this really the mortification we're after?

Good site OB. After getting a load of what Devil ("I have no idea") Patrick has done in close to his first two months in office, Mass. GOP ranks should be filling up. Maybe he'll have the affect of waking people up and do for the state's Republicans what the Duke Disaster did.

If its an unpleasant sensation, I would say yes. Obviously we don't want to fast normally, or we would do it all the time.

It is a happy fact that serving God has positive side effects.

The question is:
Are the purists going to prostitute their morals and vote for Giuliani?

Posted by: Guido on March 2, 2007 03:29 PM

Just watching the way the media is handling Romney's Mormonism by making such an issue of it, tells me that the left is afraid of this guy and may consider him a legitmate Republican threat.

I agree. I think that Mitt could be the most electable of the GOP candidates.

Posted by: asdf on March 2, 2007 04:01 PM

Supporting Romney or Giuliani is not about prostituting morals. Both claim they would appoint "originalist" judges. That is the moral issue most involved in choosing a president: Whether he will keep faith with American tradition and nominate judges he reasonably believes will keep their oaths to uphold the Constitution. The Democrats will nominate a candidate who will promise to appoint judges who will violate those oaths by upholding Roe v Wade and other clearly illegitimate instances of judicial usurpation of power. Voting for such a candidate would be prostituting one's morals if one's morals include keeping your word.

The problem for those of us who take seriously the sacred commitments that have allowed the nation to prosper and live in peace is that it is hard to believe Romney and Guiliani on this issue, given their past behavior. But trusting people with untrustworthy pasts is not prostituting your morals.

Doc,

But do you believe them? I am extremely suspicious of anyone who becomes pro-life immediately prior to running for office. And I don't trust that a supporter of abortion 'rights' would appoint an originalist.

It is hard to find anybody that is not in LaRazza that is worse on illegal immigration than McCain! He is a joke.

The perfect candidate doesn't exist. So, until Mr. Perfect shows up, it's a matter of picking the least offensive one. Mitt offends me the least.

Posted by: asdf on March 4, 2007 09:49 AM

I'll be voting for Ron Paul. I'm surprised hes not more popular here. He is the only Republican running that is consistently anti-war, pro-life, anti-illegal immigration, and pro-markets.

Posted by: Ben-T on March 4, 2007 02:36 PM

Ralph,

At the moment I don't believe they understand the issues enough to be trusted. Though they might believe what they are saying now, they will probably change again when the pressure is on. But I could be convinced. I'm kinda gullible.
