I'm not shocked that two dirtbags at the University of Arizona threw pies at Ann Coulter. I am shocked that the University of Arizona campus police arrested the assailants.
I've been mooned. I've watched anti-free speech thugs steal my writings and publicly burn them. I've had to deliver a speech with a student blocking the podium from the audience's view for the duration of the talk. I've had my words shouted down. All of these things happened in full view of campus police.
Campus police failed to protect my ability to speak freely--and students' desire to hear my words unimpeded--at Berkeley, Connecticut College, and elsewhere. But they have, at other universities, been called on by the Left to squash free speech. Columbia University security prevented attendees of a conference I had organized from entering the meeting site. We were forced to hold our November '98 event in an alcove above Morningside Park. A residential director threatened me with arrest if I dared take the podium at Michigan State. I called her bluff, spoke, and the police never came.
Other conservative speakers have faced similar situations. In fact, this is not even the first time that Coulter has had edibles thrown at her while giving a speech. In 2001, hecklers hurled oranges at Coulter as she answered questions during a talk at Cornell, the school where she received her undergraduate degree.
In 1965, intellectual moron Herbert Marcuse wrote, "Liberating tolerance, then, would mean intolerance against movements from the Right, and toleration of movements from the Left." If this isn't the marching orders of today's "tolerant" left--even of numbskulls like Phillip Edgar Smith and William Zachary Wolff who've never even read it--they certainly behave in a manner suggesting that it is.
Oh !@#$ YOU!! You Consercatives are !@#$'ing idiots. Hahahahahah.... There is no bias in academia you lemmings! You all are imagining things. Like any of this ever happened!!! I bet Fox News paid them.
. . . Sorry, DB just broke in and stole my keyboard, kinda like Mayor Marion Berry stole the author's keyboard.
So it's okay for people to throw stuff at her?
I think I would be more likely to ask her for a date then to throw things at her, she is pretty hot. Dan I hope things dont get too harsh at MIT next week but I'll bring Moose and Rocko with me just in case.
I have to add that those two men are seriously strange looking dudes and I know the one on the right is guilty of something!! Check the FBI database and something will surely pop up!
The one on the left looks like John Cusack's ugly younger brother.
Dan,
Please, I know you're just trying to plug your book by using the phrase intellectual moron, but Marcuse was not a moron. And don't tell me to read your book because, having read an early draft of your main chapter on Marcuse, I am unconvinced.
One can refute his ideas, logically, not by taking his most absurd-sounding quotes entirely out of context. Moreover one can criticize him, I think rightly, of succumbing to the temptations of "guru-hood" and conceding far too much to the more radical elements of the student movement post-'68, certainly much more than Adorno ever did. But I don't think it's correct to call him a moron.
DPO
PS: That guy does look like Cusack's younger brother.
Marcuse believed that true tolerance meant acting intolerant towards conservatives. He believed Mao and Castro embodied democracy and freedom. He said that groups that engage in violence against the system--like the Black Panthers--really exemplified the principles of non-violence. Marcuse was a moron.
Cusack hits it right on the head
the other guy looks like Flea from the chili peppers
According to Coulter's web site she went to University of Michigan Law School not Cornell...
Good catch, Dave. She did her undergraduate at Cornell. I'll correct in the main post.
I was about 10 feet from the pie boys and have since regretted not being closer so as to grab one of their legs as they jumped to the stage, which would have resulted in his forehead coming down squarely on the edge of the stage. Their big mistake was to try to exit by going back through the crowd. They were detained and were beat when they resisited and tried to get away by men from the audience. They are lucky they didn't get shot. How was anyone to know if they had guns or not? What they veiw as a prank can be seen as a deadly assult by someone else. They were handed over to a bewildered Kampus Kop (KK), who probably didn't know what to do with them.
It is amazing to me the depth of conservative thought that emerged from Michigan law school. Not only Coulter but also Larry Elder and Hugh Hewitt came from Michigan law school.
Here's the problem, Steven. If you'd grabbed one of the guys and he was injured, there would have been a queue of lawyers waiting to sue you on the "victim's" behalf.
There are so many fronts upon which we have to fight. We have to get the goons first, then their enablers.
It is amazing how people on the left try to justify this crap. If Coulter slings verbal barbs, then you are not allowed to throw things at her.
I think I must agree with Mr. Quantum Leap. These Right Wing Feminists, or whatever you all call them, have cut their eyeteeth on watching MTV in the '80's. They act more like Madonna than nice Conservative ladies. Provocative sells books, garners attention and allows these Material Girls to live nicely in their Material Worlds.
Moreover, had any one of her Liberal, Moderate or just plain Democrat counterparts been the target of attack, they would not be alive to share their story. Liberals do not kill, maybe in the ‘60’s, but not of late. However, you guys, or in all fairness the ones who share your same opinions, are quite a different story…
I am beginning to believe that Radical Right Wing Tyranny is a serious problem, far worst than anything we have ever witnessed on the Left, ever.
Oh relax, if the worst thing she's faced is someone throwing a pic at her. Thats so minor.
I had that happen to me after winning a baseball game growing up.
One of the opposing players threw a pie at me, after we were celebrating a win.
Then we started throwing pies at them.
She should be grateful.
I'v seen this happen to Bill Gates, baseball players
Hi, the She should be grateful.
I'v seen this happen to Bill Gates, baseball players.
That was about the Bill O'reilly story.
Sorry I posted this by accident on my post on here.
who put that on my post.
I didn't write this.
She should be grateful.
I'v seen this happen to Bill Gates, baseball players.
Are there hackers on here or something.
She should be grateful.
I'v seen this happen to Bill Gates, baseball players.
Sounds like more liberal, brown shirted, nazi tactics. What a surprise.
The only "speaker" who would appreciate a pie being thrown at them it Michael Moore...
Can you imagine the "outrage" of the lefties if someone had tried throwing a pie at Moore?
Since Dan thinks that that throwing pies is a great way to celebrate a win, perhaps he would be willing to throw one at Kerry if he wins??
I'd throw a gallon of ice cream and a casserole at Michael Moore, too. The poor boy is underfed!
