Washington Times Reviews Intellectual Morons

The Washington Times weighed in on Intellectual Morons this weekend, featuring a positive review in its books section. Reviewer Larry Thornberry calls the book a "quick intellectual history--more accurately a history of the anti-intellectual and the pseudo-intellectual--of the past century, and how many popular but untrue and toxic ideas undermine free society." He explains that Alfred Kinsey, Jacques Derrida, Peter Singer, and other professors get the "Flynn treatment"! Thornberry observes: "Flynn beats up on academe pretty hard--but was there ever a more deserving punching bag?"

Great review! I have yet to read it (but I will soon) but a similar book that popped in my mind was one Finbar told me to buy while we were in the used bookstore next to the Burren in sommerville - Intellectuals by Paul Johnson.

Question - I noticed that some reviews on amazon criticized you b/c you took aim at the Left (mostly) and they said that you had your own ideology as well. But I think that accusation was (hopefully) anticipated and thus the Kirkian explanation would be perfect to use in refutation of that point. But I guess the book was not about you and so maybe it would be innapropriate to use?

Maybe I should just get the book to find out myself if you used Kirk's "negation of ideology."

Congratulations on the well-deserved positive review. The book was extremely informative and enjoyable to read. Whenever I see a commercial for the movie "Kinsey", the chapter in IM comes to mind... :)

Rob, I am disappointed . . . make haste and get to any Barnes and Noble, Borders, or Amazon.com and buy it. You can tell the shopkeeper, "hey, I know this guy." . . . I will get you a copy of the Washington Times review.
