To read Nate Silver of the New York Times, one would think Barack Obama has the election wrapped up. But Mitt Romney leads among independents in every poll. His base appears more motivated to vote. And the economy, the race's leading issue, favors Romney. Several pollsters have resorted to juicing Democrat numbers to show a close race in battleground states.
