You can't print your way to prosperity. You can print a dollar into a dime. The Fed's $600 billion influx of dollars into the economy will make the dollars in your pocket less valuable. Read my column @ Human Events to understand how the Fed is taking America back to the future--the 1970s.
The twin problems facing the Americans and the US economy are unemplyment and inflation. Printing more dollars does nothing to help the unemployment situation and it makes an already serious inflation problem even worse!!
Some pundits seem to think we are struggling with "deflation." Such people don't live in the real world. For those of us in the real world, the problem is inflation not some non existent deflation. If one buys into the myth of deflation, then printing more dollars might make some sense as a measure to counteract this.
The Federal Reserve leaders are likely not stupid. As such, due to ideology they may bought into a myth of deflation or they have sinister goals. In any event, they need to be stopped. Since the Fed is not a government entity, I'm not sure what can be done. Perhaps we can begin with the audit of the Fed as some have suggested. A better idea would be for Congress to assume its responsibilties for the monetary supply and get this out of the hands of the Federal Reserve.
Can you say, "Carter Administration"?
The standard definition of insanity I think.
And Paul Krugman (the idiot non-savant) thinks we need a good old fashioned war to solve our economy.
Back to the future indeed.
Do Nobel prizes come in Cracker Jack boxes these days?
You must have seen this right?
