Despite the intellectual pretensions of those who practice it, anti-Americanism is reflexive and mindless. You know you should really read up on Fromm's ideas on patriotism. According to him there is a rational patriotism that springs from one's intrest in the well-being of thier country. Then there is the irrational patriotism that holds that one's country is superior to all others and thus that everyone living in other countries is somehow less than human. This is the patriotism that the left detests. Leftists love thier country too, but not to the point where they would justify inhuman treatment of anyone who does not live within it. When the left speaks out about patroitism, that is the patriotism they decry. The patriotism that says "Americans are better.We are human and they are not" rather than the patriotism that says "Americans are better, but they're human too."
