Hurricane Sandy leaves destroyed homes, flooded streets, power outages, and lost lives in its wake. In my neck of the northeast, its primary effect has been to steal the best part of fall. A summer storm encroaching upon autumn will always make the landscape look more like winter. I speak, like the Lorax does, for (and of) the trees. October's spectacular foliage has quickly morphed to bare branches that put the exclamation point on gray skies. The wind has blown away the best part of fall.
