Happy Real Independence Day

Happy real Independence Day! On this date in 1776, the American colonists seceded from the British Empire. Who can say for sure why people several hundred years ago did what they did? Nevertheless, the best historians contend that their bold actions against the mighty imperialists had something to do with hot dogs, the beach, and made-in-China fireworks. I'm off to celebrate the way the Founding Fathers intended me to. An alternative explanation for their motives, issued two days after independence, is offered here.

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty......".

Don't think that's how they remember it in all 57 states.

Im sure glad they didnt listen to the polls at the time , you know only 33% supported the war. it just shows what a proud few can do while the rest sit back and nay say.

Thanks Dan for mentioning that today IS in fact Independance Day. I learned that 5 years ago after reading John Adams by David McCullough. I get the chills every time I read the first 5 sentences of the Declaration.

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, and that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed."

How is it possible to NOT be moved by that? It takes a commie moron to be indifferent to such divine inspiration. We are a blessed country indeed!

I was sitting in a watering hole yesterday listening to people talk about what tough shape this country is in.

Here are these guys sitting in a seaside bar, beautiful summer sunset with door and windows open to the air, relatively free as birds, drinking, watching the Sox on big flat screen TVs, money in their pockets, food in their stomachs, all working with enough money to put gas in their late model cars, and they're talking the way to MSM and the liberals want them to be talking. Doom and gloom.

That's hope and change we can believe in!!

We certainly have our problems here but this is still (at least for now) the greatest country in the world and we have our prescient, intellectual Founding Fathers to thank for that.

After watching the beating Jon Lester put on the Yankees tonight, I can't say that the country I live in (Red Sox Nation) has many troubles at all.

Our amazing inheritance:

We live in a country whose founding fathers pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor to create a Republic of free men.
This was NO idle talk! Their lives were in immediate danger after the initial battles in and around Boston. They were "wanted" men in the colonies!
Even more spectacular are the militia men who left productive farms and shops in towns to fight the mighty British army and the idea of a kingship. Not only did they risk bayonetting or taking a musket ball, but if they and their sons died fighting the Brits, their families faced possible starvation or ruination.

We stand on the backs of giants. We have reason to be thankful. G-d bless and keep this great Republic!

Serious times call for serious men. And the FF were so serious about liberty that they sacrificed much. In some cases, everything including their lives.

If that isn't an inspiration to all Americans, nothing ever will be.

Damn right, our FF were rich, and had everything to lose, yet they held firm to there beliefs.
