Alone Again, Unnaturally

More ways to communicate, less real communication; more porn, less sex; more time for a social life, fewer friends; transportation makes the world smaller, its people are further apart--the Washington Post provides depressing information on growing social isolation in America.

I've been called a Luddite because I have no Tivo or Microwave. Maybe that's why I have 6 or 8 friends who I'd loan money to, or help in any way I could, as they would for me. For me, at least, all my closest friends are men of good character and morals. The rest are just people I know.

This is so true today. There are so many electronic and media diversions that, if they choose, people don't need other people. Some people that is.

I have acqaintances (not friends) who very rarely go out unless they have to for work or to run errands. As long as they have cable TV, video games and/or the Internet, they don't need friendships or relationships. Sad.

I know. I treasure my friendships. These guys have gotten me through some rough times. Two in particular taught me better money management so I could dig myself out of the hole. I prefer an afternoon of conversation with them, than most other diversions.

You're a lucky peson Wm. One true good friend is hard to find. If you have multiple friend, your in the bonus round.

ASDF, I've found the same to be true with several people I know. There's more to life than TV, computers and video games.

It's getting scary "out there" due to too many people being "in there". Fewer people develop the necessary skills to deal with real life these days.

Of course, many of the people who contribute to this and other online media may be some of the culprits. ;-\
